About The Position

Under supervision of the Chancellor, this role collaborates across the campus to provide technical, analytical, and instructional support related to Hawaiian language and cultural knowledge. The position focuses on learning, education, and career pathways, emphasizing values-based decision-making. It involves consulting with cultural practitioners to create resources for workshops and student support, maintaining a record of these materials, and contributing to the professional development of student employees. The role also serves as a resource and conducts workshops for faculty and staff, assists in developing lesson plans and co-curricular materials using the Hawaiian language, and may require evening and weekend work.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Hawaiian Studies or Hawaiian Language, and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for Hawaiian language or cultural based curricular and/or co-curricular materials and resources; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the area of traditional Hawaiian educational practices and career pathways.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with educational programs and/or student learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through creative reasoning and logic.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders, members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in curriculum development in Hawaiian Studies or Hawaiian language coursework, or related fields.
  • Hawaiian language conversational proficiency.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising student employees.
  • Knowledge and/or fluency in specific Hawaiian language terms related to careers and career related values and concepts.
  • Experience in education planning, program development, and evaluation.
  • Experience working with Hawaiian community organizations and non-profit groups.

Responsibilities
