About The Position

The Academic Success Advisor, Senior acts as a key contributor to promoting and supporting student retention and graduation university-wide and advises students in making timely progress toward degree completion through a range of in-person and virtual academic counseling and support strategies. This position is for experienced individuals with advanced training in academic advising and robust experience in student success activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Ability to lead staff and program efforts.
  • Ability to create assessment plans and execute assessment reports.
  • Applies and demonstrates knowledge of supporting/guiding students through curriculum requirements; identifies and creates connections to resources for students to support goals; delivers advising practices in accordance to relevant university, college/department/school ethical and legal guidelines; actively builds knowledge of key university, or college/department/school resources.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in an environment focused on continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Skilled in problem solving, who can take initiative and set priorities, while being flexible.
  • Ability to develop action plans to meet goals; establishes milestones and timetables.
  • Documents activities and tracks progress.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group academic advising and/or interacts with students in support of academic success.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to support academic success.
  • Proactively monitors student academic performance; addresses, responds to, and works to resolve student concerns, questions, or issues; collaborates closely with students to identify all academic options including, but not limited to: degrees, tutoring, counseling, career services, success coaches, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships; supports and provides counsel to students in selection of options best suited to the student's goals, interests, and skills.
  • Acts as key contributor within advising team to ensure ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and degree progress, provides follow up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services by utilizing a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success.
  • Acts as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success; attends and/or presents at orientation or recruiting events/activities/workshops.
  • Establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships.
  • Implements college/department initiatives with a holistic perspective of larger university wide priorities.
  • Collaborates with leadership to provide solutions associated with specific programs or projects.
  • Coordinates a program, portion of a large program, or a group of activities and functions within a department or college directed to the retention and success of the student population. This may include setting timelines, goals, and creating budgets (where applicable).
  • Coordinates training and development related to advising services, projects and programs for staff.
  • Contributes, assesses and evaluates advising policies, projects, or programs and implementation.
  • Prepares detailed documents, proposals, reports based upon analysis.
  • Escalates/redirects urgent or conflicting requests after attempting resolution.
  • May seek to resolve complex issues and takes the lead on projects built around student support.
  • As required, interact with key internal and external stakeholders; act as a course instructor/resource for faculty.
  • Other duties as assigned.
