About The Position

The Academic Operations Director leads the strategy, systems, and performance of academic operations across the network. The role builds and manages processes that ensure quality, equity, and consistency while supervising team members and using data and feedback to improve outcomes. As a member of the Schools Team, this leader oversees the operational systems—such as timelines, materials, and coordination—that enable strong teaching and learning across campuses. The position collaborates closely with superintendents, operations leaders, student services, and curriculum teams to translate academic priorities into practical systems for schools. The director also ensures compliance with policies and testing requirements while maintaining reliable systems for scheduling, materials delivery, assessments, and educational technology.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred (education, operations, or related)
  • 7+ years in academic operations, school systems, or instructional management
  • Track record leading academic operations across multiple schools/campuses
  • Strong knowledge of academic policy, testing/assessment operations, edtech, and curriculum logistics
  • Excellent project management, organization, and communication skills
  • Able to manage cross-functional work and deliver on tight timelines
  • Ability to travel approximately 10-20% of the time, primarily within the US

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within a New York Charter School model or operator (Preferred)
  • Experience with rostering/integration tools (e.g., Clever) and SIS/assessment platforms (e.g., PowerSchool, Illuminate or similar) (Preferred)
  • Strong spreadsheets/data reporting skills (Google Sheets/Excel) and experience supporting computer-based testing and academic scheduling (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Lead academic operations planning and execution across campuses, serving as the primary project manager for school-facing academic operational workstreams and ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery against network timelines
  • Partner with Superintendents, Operations, and Student Services to build annual campus daily schedules that protect instructional minutes, meet compliance requirements, and reflect service delivery needs (e.g., ICT/related services, interventions, MLL), with clear templates and quality checks
  • Own centralized curriculum printing and distribution, including print specifications, production timelines, delivery schedules, and issue resolution so that teachers have what they need—when they need it
  • Manage curriculum inventory and logistics in partnership with Network Directors of Operations and contractors: ordering, receiving, storage guidance, campus-level counts, replenishment cycles, and end-of-year closeout processes
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts tied to curriculum materials, assessment tools, and academic operations services—tracking renewals, service levels, deliverables, and troubleshooting escalations with finance/operations support as needed
  • Lead computer-based testing readiness and execution support across curriculum-linked technology platforms, ensuring device readiness, secure testing configurations, rostering accuracy, proctoring logistics coordination, and smooth day-of operations with campuses
  • Coordinate instructional technology and blended learning platform setup, including rostering, access, course setup, training artifacts, and ongoing operational routines that keep platforms reliable for teachers and students
  • Build scalable tools, playbooks, and reporting routines (trackers, SOPs, calendars, checklists, and dashboards) that reduce school burden, improve compliance, and strengthen consistency of execution across the network
  • Other duties as assigned
