Clinical responsibilities include providing psychological consultations and brief treatment for outpatients utilizing the Primary Care Behavioral Health Model in Academic Internal Medicine (AIM) Primary Care clinic. The AIM clinic is a high volume fast paced clinic environment that strives to provide the high-quality team-based care for our patients. Reasons for consultation requests include depression, anxiety, adjustment to life stressors, pain management, weight management, non-adherence with treatment plans, memory concerns, ADHD, substance use, risk assessment, and behavior change. Most of these patients also have co-occurring chronic illnesses. Most of these patients also experience multiple chronic conditions alongside unmet social determinants of health (SDOH) needs. Consults are typically received via the “warm handoff” model from patients’ primary care physicians or other team members. It is expected that the psychologist will implement team-based population health approaches to address behavioral health issues that impact chronic disease management. The psychologist will collaborate with all clinic providers in patient care. There are opportunities for group therapy and other program development. The psychologist will also provide supervision for psychology trainees (i.e., psychology interns and/or fellows) on the service. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the psychologist will be expected to engage in educational activities for psychology trainees, medical residents, and staff. Research activities are highly encouraged.
