About The Position

The Academic Instructor provides instruction in basic education subjects, including mathematics, science, social studies, reading, writing, and language arts, to help students develop skills that contribute to becoming mature, responsible citizens. The instructor maintains a positive learning environment, uses secure classroom management practices, and develops lesson plans appropriate to students’ levels.

Under general supervision, the instructor prepares course objectives in accordance with curriculum standards and applicable contract requirements; plans a program of study, lesson plans, assignments, and tests; and teaches using course outlines, handouts, texts, audiovisual aids, and other materials. The instructor administers tests to evaluate student progress and competency and provides individualized instruction as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must possess a certificate or license in accordance with Tennessee Department of Education standards to teach in the state of employment.
• Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining required agency credentials.
• Experience in Microsoft Office applications is required.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

• A teaching license is preferred.
• Three years of classroom instruction experience is preferred.

Responsibilities
