About The Position

The Academic Division Chief, Medicine provides strategic and academic leadership for the Medicine Division in partnership with HonorHealth and the Arizona State University John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering. The role leads the academic vision and strategy for clinical education, undergraduate and graduate medical education, faculty development, research, innovation, and scholarly activity while advancing excellence in patient-centered clinical care. The Chief collaborates across HonorHealth, the HonorHealth Medical Group, and ASU to develop an integrated academic environment that prepares future physicians and physician-engineers to address evolving community health needs. The role oversees academic programs, resources, and infrastructure; develops and supports faculty; cultivates research and external funding; advances innovative curricula and educational experiences; and maintains partnerships across clinical and academic organizations. The Chief maintains active clinical practice and academic engagement appropriate to specialty, credentials, organizational needs, and leadership responsibilities, and ensures compliance with accreditation, regulatory, institutional, and professional standards.

Requirements

M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school.
Substantial clinical and academic experience in Medicine.
Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic medical setting.
Experience with medical education, faculty development, research, and scholarly activity.
Familiarity with medical school operations and interdisciplinary academic programs.
Current Arizona physician license or eligibility to obtain Arizona licensure.
Current board certification appropriate to the physician specialty.

Responsibilities

Set the overall strategy for Medicine Division academic programs, aligning priorities with HonorHealth and ASU organizational goals.
Lead and oversee undergraduate and graduate medical education programs, supporting teaching, mentorship, assessment, and learner experiences.
Integrate biomedical science, patient-care fundamentals, clinical disciplines, medical engineering, artificial intelligence, and health systems science into academic programs.
Foster research, discovery, and scholarly activity, including collaborative programs and pursuit of grants and other external funding.
Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain faculty; promote faculty engagement, academic advancement, teaching excellence, and scholarly productivity.
Build and maintain relationships across HonorHealth, the HonorHealth Medical Group, ASU, the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering, and affiliated clinical and academic programs.
Oversee academic departmental budgets, resources, facilities, and program infrastructure.
Partner with HonorHealth and the ASU Foundation on fundraising and development activities supporting Medicine Division goals and academic initiatives.
Guide development and continuous improvement of curricula and educational experiences involving hands-on patient care, precision education tools, emerging technologies, and interdisciplinary learning.
Promote an inclusive academic environment and model communication, collaboration, professionalism, and respect.
Maintain active clinical practice and academic engagement appropriate to specialty, credentials, organizational needs, and leadership responsibilities.
Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, medical staff bylaws, institutional policies, and professional and ethical standards.
Communicate academic performance, opportunities, risks, and resource needs to appropriate HonorHealth and ASU leadership groups.
