About The Position

The Department of Medicine's core mission is to undertake outstanding education, research, and high-quality clinical care to provide the best possible health outcomes for Albertans. We have 14 divisions that work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary, multicultural and ethnically diverse collegial environment with over 1,400 clinicians, scientists, learners and administrative support. The Academic Department Manager, reporting to the Faculty General Manager, is the senior executive for the Department of Medicine. In collaboration with the Department Chair, the ADM is accountable for the design, implementation, and management of efficient and effective administrative systems and structures within the Department in support of its 14 divisions. The Department of Medicine is an academic medicine area that is multidisciplinary in research, teaching, and patient care. The complexity of the department and the ADM position is evidenced by the multiple numbers of contractual reporting stakeholders, such as the University, Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services. As the department is an academic medicine area multidisciplinary in research, teaching, and patient care, the ADM is required to be knowledgeable of policies and practices of the University of Alberta, Alberta Health (including Acute Care Alberta and Primary Preventive Health Services) and Alberta Health Services. The complexity of the department and the ADM position is evidenced by the multiple numbers of contractual reporting stakeholders such as the University, Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services. In addition, this role oversees the implementation and administrative management of the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP) - a province-wide contracted program among the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, Primary and Preventative Health Services (PPHS), and AHS Medical Affairs.
