About The Position

Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) is seeking qualified and competent experts for potential Part Time Academic Counselor positions. Applications are held in an applicant pool and consulted when a position opens. Applicants will not be notified of their status unless contacted for an interview. This role involves assisting students throughout the enrollment lifecycle, including academic, career, and transfer advising via various communication methods. Preliminary transcript reviews for course scheduling are required. Evening and weekend work may be necessary, depending on student lifecycle and peak enrollment periods. The Academic Counselor reports to the Director of Advising, Career & Transfer.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or closely related field.
• Three (3) years experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Ability to conduct preliminary transcript reviews for course scheduling.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform new, transfer, and readmitted student intake advising.
• Assist students with educational planning, including academic, career, and transfer resources.
• Refer students to the Coordinator Career Planning and Placement for career assessments to ensure appropriate major assignment or goal achievement.
• Review student test scores, transcripts, and potential transfer credits to advise on academic plans and course selection.
• Register students into appropriate academic coursework, including add/drop and withdrawal advising.
• Collaborate with and make referrals to Retention Specialists and other personnel to address barriers to academic success.
• Actively participate in enrollment and career alignment events such as open houses, orientations, and commencement.
• Work occasional evening and weekend hours during peak enrollment periods (typically August and January) or support advising events as needed.
