About The Position

As an Academic Coordinator/Advisor 1, you will have primary responsibility to provide quality, holistic academic advising and coaching services to students at Washington State University (WSU) in the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication. This position will carry an academic advising load reflecting a diverse student population; participate in the delivery of Murrow Center for Student Success services to include drop-in advising, advising appointments, and related advising events to include assistance with reviewing and on occasion presenting advising related material for Com 138, and represent the Murrow College at recruitment and orientation programs. Additionally, you will provide information and clarification regarding university and college-specific academic policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel and work some evening and weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience reviewing and coordinating internship program information for evaluation.
  • Experience working with, and maintaining, student records.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-energy, demanding, service-oriented office.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of curriculum management practices, processes and policies.

Responsibilities
