All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. This position requires an individual to maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices. The Academic Champion will conduct orientation workshops for students, parents, community, and other related entities. They will also screen applicants for participant eligibility, refer ineligible students to appropriate or alternative services, and maintain participant files. Regular meetings with the UB Director and target school principal are expected, as well as conducting participant follow-up surveys and participating in in-service meetings. Collaboration with target school counselors in coordinating project activities is also a key responsibility. The role requires performing other duties as required to achieve program goals and objectives.
