About The Position

Davidson-Davie Community College is an award-winning institution committed to student learning, success, and economic growth. The Academic Advisor delivers learning-centered, holistic academic advising and case management to support students in navigating a guided pathway aligned with their academic, career, and life goals. This role designs and implements student engagement strategies that promote academic persistence, retention, and program completion for online program students. Remote work days may be assigned upon successful completion of the College's one year probationary period in accordance with College's telework policy.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
One year experience advising students
Two years of experience working with students in higher education or a related field

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in higher education administration, student development, education, or a related field from an accredited institution
Experience in caseload management
Experience working with students in an online setting
Experience providing academic advising in a higher education environment
Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

Provide holistic, strengths-based academic advising that helps students create and follow personalized educational plans aligned with their academic and career goals.
Guide students through their academic journey by helping them explore program options, understand degree and certificate pathways, and make informed decisions from entry to graduation.
Monitor and support student progress by regularly reviewing academic performance and proactively intervening with students facing academic challenges (warning, probation, or suspension).
Utilize early alert systems to identify at-risk students and conduct timely outreach, offering appropriate referrals to academic support and community resources.
Partner with online program faculty to stay informed on program updates, serve on advisory boards, collaborate on program specific resources and events, and share student concerns.
Collaborate with staff across various departments to stay informed of resources available to support online learners.
Promote student engagement and retention by offering timely and relevant communications and creating outreach initiatives that increase connection to advising and campus resources.
Assist students with initial screenings for available support resources to address student’s personal and financial needs.
Commit to ongoing professional development by attending training, participating in professional organizations, and integrating evidence-based advising practices into daily work.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental and college needs.
