About The Position

The University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College at North Little Rock is seeking an Academic Advisor. This comprehensive two-year college offers associate degree and certificate programs for students planning to transfer to four-year colleges and universities, as well as for career preparation and advancement. The Academic Advisor will assist students in clarifying life/career goals, developing educational plans, and supporting their decision-making process to help them realize their maximum educational potential. This role involves communication, information dissemination, and serving as a facilitator and coordinator for course and career planning, program progress review, and referrals to other campus services.

Requirements

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Customer and solutions oriented with a strong commitment to customer service while maintaining compliance with policies.
  • Commitment to the mission of a comprehensive two-year college and an understanding of the different components of a student services operation.
  • Must be able to articulate and execute public speaking at a level students can understand and learn.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work longer hours during peak times.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and career advising to current, new, and transfer students throughout the year
  • Participate in New Student Orientation activities to assist students in registration
  • Provide holistic advising services to students within the advisor’s caseload
  • Assist undecided students in the selection of a program of study and mapping a plan to degree completion
  • Help students examine interests and abilities, connecting to career choices
  • Assist students with resources and activities for job preparation and job seeking
  • Interpret and articulate test scores, prior college credits, and required developmental courses for desired program of study
  • Assist students with access to other campus services and resources, to include but not limited to, counseling, disability services and tutoring
  • Provide intervention and support for students on Academic Probation and Suspension, as well as Financial Aid Warning and Suspension to increase retention and completion
  • Participate in development and delivery of training for part-time and/or faculty advisors
  • Participate in professional development and other training opportunities to increase advisor knowledge and skill
  • Other duties as assigned
