Under the general supervision, the Academic Advisor provides individual and group academic advisement to prospective, new, and continuing EOP and non-EOP students. The incumbent explains general education and other university degree requirements, policies, and procedures and facilitates workshops for students on academic notice and responds to faculty on student Education Advisory Board (EAB). Provides individual and group academic advisement to prospective, new, and continuing EOP and non-EOP students Explains general education and other university degree requirements, policies, and procedures. Signs change of major forms & graduation applications. Facilitates workshops for students on academic notice and responds to faculty on the student EAB. Assists in representing the College at campus and community outreach activities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a job-related field.
  • Equivalent to two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
  • A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Thorough knowledge of academic advisement practices, general education requirements, university degree requirements, academic policies, procedures, and student support resources.
  • Ability to provide clear, accurate, and student-centered guidance to prospective, new, and continuing EOP and non-EOP students in individual and group settings.
  • Skill in facilitating workshops, responding to faculty referrals and EAB alerts, and supporting students experiencing academic notice or other academic challenges.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and represent the College professionally during campus outreach activities, EOP transitional programs, interviews, events, and community college admission days.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
