About The Position

A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in the Advising, Retention + Career Center beginning June 28th, 2026. This is a renewable assignment, contingent on performance. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of best practices to promote student academic success and career exploration, and ability to learn, understand and explain processes and requirements.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and meet goals and work well under time pressure and respond to multiple demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a cohesive member of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability in developing cooperative relationships and partnerships with colleagues, and with faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with students (college or pre-college) from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of career assessments and career development theory.

  • A master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation for declared and exploratory students on such matters as course selection, High Impact Practices (such as study abroad, undergraduate research, etc.), degree requirements and academic achievement
  • Interpret, communicate, and keep up-to-date on all university and degree policies, such as liberal education requirements, major and minor requirements, and graduation requirements
  • Remain current with, and facilitate, course waivers and substitutions, late course adds/drops/withdrawals, and credit overloads, and other university procedures
  • Partner with departmental faculty advisors to provide connected advising for students
  • Provide individual and group major/minor/certificate advising for students
  • Utilize early warning alert mechanisms to properly advise students; follow up with advisees who are at risk, based on mid-term and semester grades; provide assistance to students encountering academic difficulty
  • Advise incoming students during orientation sessions
  • Provide individual and group career development advising for students
  • Administer and interpret career assessments for advisees
  • Design and implement student programs that foster student development
  • Develop and deliver modules, seminars or courses on college success strategies and major and career exploration
  • Assist advisees in creating individualized four-year academic degree plans/contracts
  • Communicate regularly with advisees and track progress toward their degree with the goal of increased retention and timely degree completion
  • Address advisees’ personal and academic needs by referring them to appropriate services
  • Maintain records of each advisee contact
  • Participate in campaigns to promote student engagement, progression, and retention
  • Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures
  • Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
  • Proactively engages students as needed
  • Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
  • Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies
  • Implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers
  • Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
