The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for an Academic Advisor within the UNLV Student Academic Success program. This role provides comprehensive academic advising and career/major exploration services to all UNLV students, including those in exploring majors, pre-professional tracks, non-degree-seeking status, and those needing additional support. The advisor is expected to work independently, using sound judgment and initiative to offer accurate, student-centered guidance across a wide array of academic programs. Responsibilities include providing on-call advising support across multiple centers, maintaining a thorough knowledge of all UNLV majors, minors, certificates, and microcredentials, and assisting students in clarifying academic goals, selecting majors, and making informed decisions to promote retention, progression, and timely degree completion. This position involves both independent contributions and collaborative efforts, requiring proactive relationship-building with advising leadership and colleagues to ensure consistent advising practices that meet evolving student and institutional needs. Key duties include conducting one-on-one advising appointments via various communication channels (in-person, phone, email, video conferencing) and initiating proactive outreach for student success initiatives. The advisor must stay current with curriculum, policies, and procedures, and take initiative in identifying solutions, improving processes, and enhancing the student experience. Additional duties may be assigned by Student Success leadership. All positions in Academic Affairs contribute to the core mission of increasing enrollment and promoting equitable student success by addressing systemic obstacles and implementing strategic services, programs, and support. This role aims to enhance student enrollment, retention, progression, timely completion, and equitable outcomes, contributing to the institution's commitment to expand access, grow enrollment, and promote career-ready student success leading to timely graduation. Evening and weekend work may be necessary, with occasional travel possible.
