Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an institutionally accredited college or university
  • Experience in education, counseling, or academic advising
  • Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license or ability to obtain one before date of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree from an institutionally accredited college or university
  • Experience advising high school students
  • Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish
  • Sensitivity in responding to the academic and social needs of low-income, potential first-generation college students, employees and students
  • Knowledge of community support agencies
  • Experience supervising part-time staff

Responsibilities

  • Assess students' academic, educational, and career needs; develop and monitor Individual Educational Plans (IEPs); provide individualized academic advising and support to help students achieve their educational goals and overcome barriers to success
  • Recruit eligible participants, monitor program participation, and ensure student engagement in required project activities, including the summer component
  • Guide students through the college preparation and admissions process by providing information and support related to career exploration, college entrance exams, college applications, financial aid, scholarships, and post-secondary planning
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate workshops, seminars, and special activities related to personality assessments, career planning, college readiness, and other grant-supported objectives for students and hourly staff
  • Coordinate tutoring services by organizing tutoring sessions, training tutors, and collaborating with hourly advisors and instructional technicians to document services and student progress
  • Maintain and utilize program databases to document student participation, services provided, follow-up activities, and program outcomes; track program graduates for up to seven years or through completion of their post-secondary education
  • Collaborate with the Project Director, Project Coordinator, and other program staff to implement grant goals and objectives; supervise students and provide on-site program administration during the summer component and other project activities
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with target schools, college departments, and community agencies to coordinate services, increase student access to educational and community resources, and serve as a liaison with campus support programs
  • Coordinate and supervise college visits, educational travel, and other program events to promote college awareness, student engagement, and successful transition to post-secondary education
  • Participate in professional development activities, including college counseling meetings, regional conferences, and training opportunities, to maintain current knowledge of college admissions requirements, student support services, and best practices
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
