Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in the arts and sciences from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the time of the appointment OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the time of the appointment and At least one year of full-time employment in a field that commonly employs art and sciences graduates.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree completed or completed within six months of start date from an accredited institution of higher education OR At least two years of full-time employment in a field that commonly employs arts and science graduate
  • At least one year of full-time experience in one (or a combination) of the following fields: 1. Academic advising or student conduct 2. Career advising or coaching 3. College, high school, or middle school teaching or counseling 4. Social worker or other mental health care professional working directly with clients 5. Related higher education experience working directly with students (two years of work as a graduate assistant or adjunct teacher is equivalent to one year full-time)

Responsibilities

  • Providing traditional academic advising support for an assigned caseload of up to 550 undergraduate students.
  • Assisting students as they work to clarify educational and career goals, develop and implement plans to achieve those goals, make decisions that align with academic policy, and utilize campus resources/processes.
  • Participating in a small number of coordinated proactive advising programs aimed at aggressively supporting targeted cohorts of advisees (for example, students who have applied for graduation or students that did not enroll as expected).
  • Engaging in a variety of activities related to New Student Orientation through the year and especially in the month of June and, to a lesser degree, other college events.
  • Engaging (both proactively and as assigned) in service activities that facilitate the day-to-day operation of the center and/or contribute to the profession of academic advising.
  • Creating and maintaining collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
