About The Position

Temple University's Pre-Professional Health Advising is searching for an Academic Advisor I. This role provides comprehensive advising and high-level support to current students and alumni pursuing admission to medical and other health professional programs. The advisor will review ePortfolio documents, offer personal statement feedback, conduct mock interviews, and schedule Pre-Health Evaluation Committee interviews. The position also involves developing and coordinating workshops and events, creating presentations and social media content, and conducting data analysis to assess placement rates and improve services. Additionally, the advisor will support onboarding of first-year students, guide them through professional school preparation, review academic timelines, communicate prerequisite requirements, and provide targeted opportunities to enhance professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in a student-facing role within an academic or higher education setting.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and technological communication skills.
  • Willingness to continuously build knowledge and skills.
  • Shares current expertise with others.
  • Strong analytical skills to complement data.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Completes projects in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Strong customer service ability, including the ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situations.
  • Understanding of broad implications of decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills as well as the ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Self-starter and seeks increased responsibilities.
  • Asks for and offers help when needed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comes to resolutions in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated outstanding oral, written and technological communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new and emerging technologies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software.
  • Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours when necessary.

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Demonstrated experience with public speaking in both large and small groups.
  • Experience in an academic support or academic advising unit.
