About The Position

The Able-Bodied Seaman (AB) is responsible for supporting the safe operation, maintenance, and mission readiness of company vessels. This position performs deck operations, navigational watchstanding, cargo handling, equipment maintenance, and emergency response activities while ensuring compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations, company policies, and safety standards. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, adaptable, and able to work effectively in a team environment.

Requirements

  • Valid U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)
  • Able Seaman (AB) Special endorsement or higher
  • Valid TWIC Card
  • Valid U.S. Coast Guard Medical Certificate
  • Valid U.S. Passport
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working in varying weather and sea conditions.
  • Ability to work a rotational schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience aboard commercial, government, offshore support, or research vessels.
  • Experience operating deck machinery and cargo handling equipment.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with mooring, unmooring, anchoring, and line handling operations.
  • Operate deck machinery, including winches, cranes, and other equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain deck equipment.
  • Assist with cargo operations and vessel upkeep.
  • Stand assigned navigational watches.
  • Maintain a proper lookout and report hazards or unusual conditions.
  • Assist the bridge team with safe vessel operations.
  • Participate in safety meetings, drills, and emergency response activities.
  • Inspect and maintain lifesaving and firefighting equipment.
  • Promote a safe working environment by reporting hazards and following company safety procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, painting, and preservation of vessel spaces and equipment.
  • Complete minor repairs as assigned.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Assist with the loading, unloading, securing, and handling of cargo and equipment.
  • Work effectively with crew members, contractors, and customer representatives.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with crew members and management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support vessel operations.
