About The Position

Seaward Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Able-Bodied Seaman to join the deck crew for their new Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV). These vessels will service wind turbines off the East Coast, operating primarily in the waters around Martha’s Vineyard or Norfolk, VA. The role involves transporting crew, equipment, and cargo to wind turbines. Under the direction of the Captain and Deck Officer, the Able-Bodied Seaman will assist with various tasks including personnel transfers to turbines, mooring operations, vessel maintenance, engine rounds, and navigation. The position requires an experienced and focused individual who demonstrates sound judgment and caution in dynamic operating environments, prioritizing safety above all else. The role also emphasizes good seamanship, attentiveness, and a commitment to a productive, safe, and cooperative workplace, reflecting company values and codes of conduct. Trips offshore will range from 12 to 24 hours in duration.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Credential (MMC) with an Able-Bodied Seaman Limited (or higher) endorsement
  • STCW 95 and the following STCW endorsements: II/4, IV/2, VI/1, VI/2, VI/3, VI/4, VI/5, and VI/6
  • RFPNW
  • VPDSD
  • Valid United States Passport
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Copy of DD Form 214, if Veteran Status
  • Three (3) years’ experience as a seagoing mariner, demonstrating the ability to handle increasing levels of responsibility
  • Excellent career record in the marine industry

Responsibilities

  • Handle mooring lines during docking or undocking of the vessel
  • Assist with filling potable water, bunkering, discharging black/grey water and connect / disconnect shore power as directed
  • Perform operational duties as instructed by the Captain or Deck Officer
  • Conduct at sea personnel transfer and cargo operations in all weather conditions
  • Perform lookout duties while underway in accordance with Rule 5 of COLGREGs
  • Assist in all alongside and underway cargo evolutions
  • Perform cleaning and custodial tasks of the vessels and property, including maintenance tasks
  • Conduct basic engineering repairs and rounds as directed
  • Seek the highest levels of quality and professionalism
  • Assist with training of new crew as directed
  • Assist the Master in ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations
  • Assist the Master in maintaining vessel integrity to support safety and a consistent state of operational readiness
  • Monitor passenger & crewmember safety issues on the boat
  • Ensure that safety equipment is utilized, and appropriate guidelines are followed for all tasks involving physical risk or hazardous materials
  • Participate in meetings, training, drills, and safety audits as required by USCG & company policy
  • Develop understanding of all phases of shipboard safety procedures and knowledge of location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment (i.e., fire extinguishers, fire stations, life preservers, work vest, and life floats)
  • Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Handle and dispose of all chemicals and other types of hazardous or caustic materials in compliance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) (as required)
  • Report safety, operational, and environmental issues to your direct supervisor immediately
  • Additional job duties as assigned
