About The Position

The role of A320 Family MAP Cabin & Cargo Engineering Team Manager is a critical leadership position demanding a blend of specialized cabin/cargo system authority and operational influence. To succeed, the candidate must act as a primary technical bridge between the Global Design Office (DOA) and the physical production environment of the Final Assembly Line (FAL). The core of this role is the ability to lead a specialized team of engineering professionals within a complex, global matrix organization. The manager is responsible for leading the Cabin & Cargo MAP Engineering domain within the Mobile MAP organization, ensuring the highest standards of liaison between Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing. This position requires operational optimization and milestone gate alignment, transnational alignment and product evolution management, aircraft flight line readiness and delivery integration, and engineering system governance and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive aerospace engineering experience associated with design, architecture, or structural integration
  • Cross-Functional Integration: Ability to collaborate seamlessly across engineering boundaries, including Design, Static Stress, Fatigue & Damage Tolerance (F&DT), Project Management, and Loads communities.
  • Matrix Leadership: Demonstrated success leading technical teams within a project-based, global matrix environment where positional authority may not be explicitly defined; requires high leadership agility.
  • Airworthiness & Regulations: Deep understanding of global Aviation Regulations, Airbus Production Organization Approval (POA), Design Organization Approval (DOA), aircraft conformity, and attestation rules.
  • Configuration & Change Management: Detailed knowledge of the Airbus Change Process and strict aircraft configuration management rules.
  • Non-Conformity Resolution: Proficiency with Airbus non-conformity processes and associated engineering tools, including NC tracking, Design Query Notes, Concessions, and Quality Survey Reports.
  • Airbus Frameworks & Procedures: Comprehensive understanding of internal Airbus technical procedures, design standards, and industrial processes.
  • Delegation Progression: Clear capability to achieve, maintain, and expand formal Design Office and Chief Engineering delegations for the A320 Aircraft Family.
  • Cabin & Cargo Architecture: Strong knowledge of Aircraft Cabin & Cargo design, monument outfitting, structural integration rules, and installation principles.
  • Structural & Materials Expertise: Familiarity with installation-based stress principles, material standards, electrical bonding, and corrosion protection methodologies.
  • Technical Documentation: Hands-on experience navigating and applying standard Airbus manuals, including the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), Wiring List, and Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC).
  • Multidisciplinary Design Principles: Knowledge of specialized Airbus Design Principles across electrical, mechanical, and cabin/cargo installations.
  • Problem Solving & Decision Making: Proven effectiveness in making decisive, autonomous engineering judgments and solving complex technical problems under pressure.
  • Transnational Experience: Solid background operating within international, geographically dispersed, and multicultural engineering teams.
  • FAL Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt rapidly to short-term changes in Final Assembly Line (FAL) production planning, schedules, and operational requirements.
  • Complete fluency in written and spoken English; ability to clearly articulate complex technical, programmatic, cost, and personnel topics to diverse stakeholders at all levels of the company both internal and external within a challenging environment.
  • High emotional intelligence with a proven capability to navigate a complex network of stakeholders, gauge audience dynamics, interpret non-verbal cues, and adapt communication styles in real-time to mitigate operational conflict and build alignment
  • Exceptional interpersonal soft skills rooted in active listening, empathy, and relationship building to foster an open, trusting environment and successfully manage intense, negotiation-type communications on a regular basis

  • Deep knowledge of Aerospace Airframe Product Development, Continuous Product development, Architecture and Systems Integration processes and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and talk knowledgeably of unseen scientific/engineering ideas or concepts.
  • Proven decision making and fast track problem solving capability during conflict and negotiation situations.

  • Able to make decisions with X-FAL, X-Site inputs and coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the foremost technical authority for the team and team task deliverables within the Aircraft Cabin and Cargo engineering domains.
  • Accountable by Airbus engineering delegation to ensure all MAP engineering activities comply with Aircraft Safety and Airworthiness standards.
  • Coordinate on-time engineering support to the FAL and Delivery Center throughout the aircraft manufacturing process up to the ferry flight.
  • Create, validate, approve, and authorize technical solutions—including justification reports—for repairs, rework, or troubleshooting instructions.
  • Monitor design corrective actions, improvements, and temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) to resolve product and industrial non-conformities.
  • Manage, mentor, and guide the engineering domain group to converge with the high-pressure requirements of the manufacturing units.
  • Define and maintain team member qualifications and delegation targets at the required level of domain expertise.
  • Conduct regular performance assessments, provide periodic feedback, and proactively correct performance or behavior issues.
  • Lead the recruitment and hiring of team members to build a high-functioning organization based on trust and respect.
  • Act as the interface between the A320 Family Chief Engineer, Design Office, and local Manufacturing/Quality assurance.
  • Assist the Head of MAP Engineering USA by providing performance metrics and contributing to transnational engineering strategies.
  • Present technical explanations and corrective actions to the flight test department and customers during delivery phase negotiations.
  • Utilize extensive hybrid and transverse experience to support local and international operational deliverables on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Exercise Chief Engineers delegation signatory approval to support and unblock production milestone targets locally and internationally.
  • Represent the A320 Family Chief Engineering (CE) office on-site and directly support all local CE deliverables.
  • Provide dedicated coaching and mentoring to fellow MAP Engineering Managers.
  • Maintain the technical proficiency required to achieve and execute specialized Chief Engineering Delegations for MAP activities.
  • Backup to other engineering domains or to the HO A320 Family MAP Engineering - Airframe in case of urgency.
