About The Position

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for an Aircraft Systems Engineer to join our Engineering department based in Mobile, AL. The A320 Family MAP Systems Engineer is a highly technical, operational role responsible for the development, justification, and engineering approval of design solutions related to aircraft systems non-conformities. Operating directly within the fast-paced environment of the Final Assembly Line (FAL), flight line, and delivery center, the jobholder acts as a primary technical interface between local manufacturing operations and the transnational Airbus Design Offices and Chief Engineering networks. The core of this role is to deliver timely, high-quality, and structurally sound engineering solutions executing and performing live on-aircraft troubleshooting, meticulously assessing test data, and delivering timely, high-quality, and structurally sound engineering solutions to keep production moving without compromising aircraft safety or continued airworthiness. The scope of accountability demands covering full aircraft systems including engines and APU, ensuring all corrective actions satisfy strict internal guidelines, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), customer expectations, and global regulatory frameworks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum 6+ years of progressive experience in aerospace engineering (Design Office, MAP, Chief Engineering, In Service Engineering)
  • Working experience in transnational teams
  • Understanding of MAP Engineering deliverables
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Systems
  • Experience in Systems Design (Architecture and Integration)
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in solving engineering problems
  • Knowledge of Airbus Design Principles (systems, electrical, mechanical installation)
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Configuration management rules
  • Knowledge of AIRBUS internal procedures, processes and tools
  • Experience using AIRBUS manuals (Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Wiring list, Illustrated Parts Catalog etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and approve real-time technical solutions for systems non-conformities (NCs or ALBs) discovered during assembly, ground testing, and production flights.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables strictly satisfy the timelines and quality thresholds established in site Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Act by formal engineering delegation in the name of the Airbus Chief Engineering and Systems Center of Competence.
  • Coordinate regularly with overseas engineering domains to resolve complex, non-standard system malfunctions where previous data or instructions are unknown.
  • Provide hands-on systems engineering support across the entire manufacturing perimeter, from initial section delivery to the final ferry flight.
  • Deliver definitive technical explanations to the Flight Test Department and handle direct technical presentations for internal or external customers.
  • Create, validate, and authorize design corrective actions, drawing updates, temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions), and concessions.
  • Maintain absolute accountability for the safety and compliance of released data in front of the corresponding design offices and international aeronautical authorities (EASA/FAA).
  • Perform immediate, hands-on on-aircraft troubleshooting and diagnostic assessments to isolate and resolve systems non-functioning or malfunctioning issues during ground and flight line operations.
  • Analyze, interpret, and evaluate specialized aircraft system test data generated during ground tests and production flights to diagnose deviations and assess effects on aircraft safety.
  • Accountable for design engineering activities across the entire aircraft systems perimeter, including Aircraft Control, Avionics, hydro-Mechanical systems, Cabin Systems, and APU/Power Plant systems.
  • Guarantee total compliance with Aircraft Safety and continuous Airworthiness standards for all approved rework and troubleshooting strategies.
  • Define, approve, and authorize temporary aircraft definitions via special instructions in strict alignment with structural architecture and safety mandates.
  • Approve standard instructions autonomously, while coordinating major non-conformities through transnational departments when required.
  • Attend and actively represent MAP Engineering at flight line debriefs alongside Flight Test Engineers and production crews to analyze recorded system parameters and reported telemetry anomalies.
  • Act as a critical functional interface between the A320 Family Chief Engineer/Design Office and local Manufacturing and Quality Assurance departments.
  • Deliver technical presentations and lead acceptance negotiations directly in front of internal and external customers during the aircraft delivery phase.
  • Launch and monitor engineering improvements, modification updates, and Design Query Notes (DQNs) to structurally eliminate recurring industrial errors.
