The Assistant Supervisor is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $29.87 - $32.48 per hour (equivalent to $62,129 - $67,558 annually) plus overtime. An exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications and in compliance with City policy. You're the ideal candidate for this position if you have a desire to lead with purpose and serve with pride while assisting the community in times of need. HRECC positions support a 24/7/365 public safety operation and work 12-hour shifts. When staffing allows, schedules may provide every other weekend off; however, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required based on operational needs. The expected minimum overtime is approximately 4 hours every two weeks, though actual overtime may vary. The exact shift assignment filled by this position will be determined at the end of the recruitment process. As the Assistant Supervisor, you'll perform difficult technical work receiving, classifying, processing, and dispatching emergency service calls, non-emergency service calls, and more. In this role, you'll serve as a team lead and supervise an on-duty shift of Emergency Communicators in the absence of the Supervisor and coordinate actions of the Center to mitigate emergencies. Additionally, you'll assist with the scheduling of employees, development of employee expectations, training employees, and completing various records/files daily. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Considerable (3-5 years) experience in public safety communications.
  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary emergency communications center.
  • A minimum of three (3) specialized training classes in the field of Emergency Communications.
  • This position is classified as essential and requires availability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather, based upon shift assignment and business needs.
  • Any employee of the HRECC may be called upon to work over the scheduled shift or hours, as needed.
  • Possession of CPR Certification at time of hire.
  • Possession of or the ability to acquire the following within the timeframe indicated from hire date: VCIN Level B Operator, within 3 months; DCJS Basic Communicator Certification, within 12 months; Powerphone Total Response Certification, within 3 months; DCJS General Instructor Certification, within 12 months; APCO and/or NENA Communication Center Supervisor Certification, within 12 months.
  • Released on all three (3) specialties (call taking, law enforcement dispatching, and fire and rescue dispatching) within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Felony conviction; Conviction of Class 1 or 2 misdemeanor; and Other relevant criteria to this position (Automatic Disqualifiers per State Regulations).
  • Typing Test per National Emergency Number Association (NENA) Standards
