About The Position

The Peoria Police Department Communications Section is the lifeline between our community calling for help and our officers who respond to their calls. We answer 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls and dispatch resources using state-of-the-art technology. We are seeking strong team players who effectively communicate, are proficient with advancing technology, and can multitask and quickly adapt to change. Peoria Police Communication Specialists are cross trained as call takers and radio dispatchers. They answer emergency and non-emergency calls using a multi-line telephone and 9-1-1 systems. Responsibilities include receiving, processing, and dispatching calls for service and providing information to personnel. This position requires shift work, and all employees must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as required. Also, lateral, full-time 911 Dispatchers have the ability to earn paid time off (up to 80 hours) based on previous experience in the same job function through our Award Leave program, if eligible.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalency
  • 2 years experience required in the same or similar previous positions
  • Must pass a police background investigation, to include a polygraph, medical, and psychological evaluation which meets all local, state, and federal requirements
  • Candidates with felony convictions are disqualified from employment in this job classification
  • Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Training & Arizona Criminal Justice Information Services Terminal Operator Certificate (ACJIS TOC), within 6 months of hire
  • Must have the ability to type 35 words-per-minute
  • Must pass vision and hearing tests within required parameters of corrected eyesight to 20/20 and hearing in both ears not less than 40db
  • Must be able to work on a schedule which will include nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage
