This position involves recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising news staff to report timely and relevant news stories and produce on-air news broadcasts. It also includes recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising public affairs hosts to produce interesting programming that serves public interest as defined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The role oversees the production of special event news programming such as election coverage, SGA elections, and major campus news. The director will take an enthusiastic approach to recruitment and training of new news staff with the goal of a robust schedule. This role will produce and assist in producing Featured News Stories. The director will oversee the station’s formal ascertainment process and write the station’s quarterly “issues” list with assistance from the faculty advisor and program director. Additionally, the director will ensure the proper function of all newsroom equipment and the maintenance and cleanliness of the newsroom and podcasting studios. Collaboration with the Program Director is expected to ensure WWSP-90FM’s broadcast philosophy is followed. Familiarity with Adobe Audition and other post-production and broadcast automation software is required. The director must enforce and adhere to all 90FM policies and procedures and be available to assist and volunteer for operations related to annual fundraisers (Radiothon and Trivia) in support of the station.
