About The Position

A 6th & 7th Grade teacher is required to plan and implement a blended learning environment, providing direct and indirect instruction in the areas of Social Studies, Science, Language Arts, Health, and Mathematics based on state standards. The role involves creating an inviting, innovative, and engaging learning environment that develops student critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and preparing students for strong academic achievement and passing of all required assessments. The teacher will communicate regularly with parents, continually assess student progress, and work with Special Education teachers and administration to serve special needs students. Establishing and enforcing rules for behavior, accepting feedback and coaching, attending staff meetings and school functions, and performing necessary duties are also key aspects of the position. This is a 10-month position reporting to the Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with at least 24 credit hours in content area
  • Valid (State) Teaching License for Grades K-5 or 6
  • Strong technical skills, particularly in integrating technology in the classroom to drive academic achievement
  • Demonstrated volunteer or community service
  • At least two years of successful teaching in an urban environment
  • Candidates invited back for a second interview will be required to demonstrate strong classroom management skills, excellent instructional technique, a collaborative attitude by two performance-based tasks: Delivering a classroom lesson to our students, particularly including the use of technology, Analysis of academic data, with a focus on how the candidate would use the data to drive instruction (sample data will be provided to you prior to the second interview).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare students for strong academic achievement and passing of all required assessments
  • Communicate regularly with parents
  • Continually assess student progress toward mastery of standards and keep students and parents well informed of student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing daily feedback, weekly assessments, and occasional parent/teacher conferences
  • Work with the Special Education teachers and administration to serve special needs students in the classroom
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom you are responsible
  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff
  • Attend all required staff meetings and attend designated school functions outside of school hours
  • Perform necessary duties including but not limited to morning, lunch, dismissal, and after-school duties
  • Performs other duties, as deemed appropriate, by the principal
