About The Position

The 7th Grade Science/Social Studies Teacher will create and maintain a learning environment that supports students toward the fulfillment of their potential for academic achievement, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation. This role involves instructing assigned classes, developing a conducive classroom environment, and employing various instructional techniques to meet individual student needs and district initiatives. The teacher will also be responsible for student safety, progress monitoring, record-keeping, and collaboration with colleagues and parents.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid Arizona Elementary or Secondary Teaching certification with endorsement or subject area of science indicated on certification.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to address the individuals or student groups including all district initiatives such as Cognitive Guided Instruction (CGI) and Thinking Maps.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Ascertain possible learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Evaluates and monitors student progress on a regular basis through the use of Galileo and formative assessment.
  • Evaluates student and plans for effective instruction through the structure of Professional Learning communities (PLC).
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and procedures.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) in cooperation with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
  • Maintains professionalism by participating in all faculty meetings.
  • Collaborates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods.
  • Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with community, colleagues, and administration.
  • Provides for his/her professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the Principal.
