About The Position

This role involves supervising student-athletes as assigned by the head coach, adhering to the Gadsden Independent School District’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include promoting sports participation, treating student-athletes professionally, and being loyal to the school and Head Coach. The position emphasizes fostering competitiveness, character development, and academic success among athletes, while also ensuring adherence to all district and state regulations. The coach will work with the head coach on offensive and defensive strategies, implement coaching techniques, and manage facilities and equipment responsibly.

Requirements

Employment as a teacher (preferred)
Must complete the New Mexico Activities Association’s online course requirements for coaching.
Valid New Mexico coaching license
CPR Certified
Three years specific sport related experience preferred
Girls Sport – Female candidate preferred
Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for performing the responsibilities listed.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

Supervises student-athletes as assigned by the head coach in accordance with the Gadsden Independent School District’s policies and applicable laws.
Adherence to the Gadsden Independent School District rules, regulations, and Athletic Philosophy.
Promoting and encouraging students to participate in sports.
Treating student-athletes in a professional manner in conjunction with the athletic coordinator and principal.
Assists Head Coach with Developing a competitive program that will excel in athletic performance, classroom achievement, and community expectations.
Creating an environment whereby athletes can achieve academic and athletic success.
Ensuring our athletes that they will be given every opportunity to achieve competitive success.
Monitoring academic performance to ensure the student-athlete is enjoying academic success.
Enforces the “Code of Ethics” for all athletes.
Teaches sportsmanship and sets an example of good moral and physical behavior.
Assumes responsibility for the conduct and well-being for all players.
Conduct self in a manner, both on and off the field that will bring credit to yourself, your team, and your school.
Develops an open-line of communication with participants, teachers, administrators, and parents.
Is loyal and trust worthy to the student athletes, team, head coach, school, and Gadsden Independent School District Rules and Guidelines.
Is familiar with and follows the policies and guidelines of the Gadsden Independent School District and the New Mexico Activities Association.
Knows district and state eligibility and transfer rules and follows them to the letter.
Ensures that an athlete does not participate until the head coach has the ”Green” Clearance form RANKONE.
Reports inappropriate behavior of any athletic personnel or participant to the Principal and Athletic Coordinator.
Attends professional meetings and clinics as required.
Works continually with the Principal, Athletic Director, Athletic Coordinator, and Head Coach to upgrade the total athletic program.
Cooperates with and is responsive to the needs of the Head Coach and other coaches and their athletic programs.
Encourages athletes to participate in other sports.
Participates in an end of school and summer youth programs for younger kids to provide them an opportunity to become involved in athletics as appropriate.
Promotes and supports athletic programs that involve middle school and elementary school students.
Works with and supports the high school program and head coach.
Offensive and defensive strategies will align with the high school’s philosophy.
Adheres to, supports, and provides input according to direction of the Head Coach.
Instruction to participants in safety-related issues and the need for reporting injuries to the coach.
Implementation of coaching strategies that represent technical knowledge and reflect the ability to create, utilize or react to different game situations.
Use of coaching methods and techniques that represent an up-to-date philosophy, the ability to analyze and correct errors, and the employment of sound teaching skills and techniques.
Innovative in using new coaching techniques and ideas.
Secures facilities after use; i.e. locker room, equipment room, showers, lights, building, etc.
Supervises the locker room before and after each practice until all players have left.
Assures that school purchased uniforms and equipment are used only for athletic contests.
Uniforms and equipment are to be worn and used only for school practices and games.
Follows the Gadsden Independent School District guidelines for fundraising.
Agrees to fulfill performance responsibilities in location(s) assigned.
Complies with local, state and federal rules and regulations.
Performs such other tasks as may be assigned within the parameters of the job analysis.
