About The Position

The 7th/8th Grade Science Teacher will plan, organize, and implement an instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This role is responsible for the effective management of assigned classes or programs and for implementing an educational program responsive to student needs according to school board and state policy, including the Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching. This position includes departmentalized, Special Education, Elementary, and Secondary Teacher responsibilities.

Requirements

  • A valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate (Type C or Level 1).
  • A bachelor’s degree in field.
  • Well defined learner objectives that are consistent with state and parish curriculum requirements.

  • Planning of subsequent instruction based on student performance (Reteaching).
  • Grading of papers and other assignments.
  • Entry/Averaging of grades in location and in time frame established by supervisor and/or board policy.
  • Provision of direction, supervision, and evaluation of assigned paraprofessionals.
  • Development or participation in the development of compliant Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Coordination and ensuring the delivery of special education services in each student’s IEP.
  • Holding IEP meetings within the expected timeline.
  • Scheduling of IEP meetings outside the student’s scheduled classroom time.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of the plan developed by the IEP team before submission.
  • Ensuring progress notes are completed as often as the schedule for general education progress notes.
  • Sending copies to parents or guardians.
  • Maintenance of complete and accurate service records.
  • Maintenance of organized IEP records and record keeping system.
  • Provision of research-based instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.
  • Provision and adherence to a daily schedule for instruction.
  • Provision of the schedule to immediate supervisor, building administrator, and applicable general education teachers.
  • Regular collaboration with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources (IEP team members) to improve the overall quality of student outcomes.
  • Serving as primary contact for parents/guardians of assigned special education students.
  • Regular collaboration with applicable general education classroom teachers regarding instruction and student progress.
  • Sharing all student accommodations with applicable general classroom teachers.
  • Performance of other job-related duties as mandated by state or local school board policy.
  • Completion of a self-evaluation and documentation of results on appropriate written forms.
  • Development of a Professional Growth Plan in collaboration with the evaluation.
  • Supervision of students when students are on campus.
  • Supervision of students prior to school and/or drop-off, when assigned.
  • Supervision of students in the classroom.
  • Supervision of students between classes, during recess/intermission, during lunch, assemblies.
  • Supervision of students after school and/or pick-up, when assigned.
  • Fulfillment of duties traditionally expected of those in the teaching profession.
  • Acceptance and discharge of assignments.
  • Practice and modeling of punctuality.
  • Collaboration with colleagues and departments.
  • Adherence to federal, state, system, and school policies and regulations.
