About The Position

The 7-8th Grade ELA Teacher is responsible for providing an environment that enables each child to reach their fullest physical, emotional, educational, psychological, and behavioral potential. This role involves utilizing knowledge of subject matter and curriculum development, displaying effective interpersonal skills, planning and providing instruction, applying learning principles, employing classroom management strategies, and demonstrating professionalism. The teacher will also be responsible for gathering and recording data in accordance with federal law, state law, district policy, and school procedures.

Requirements

  • Appropriate certification and highly qualified requirements.
  • Documentation of a negative Mantoux skin test or other tuberculosis-screening test recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control administered within 12 months before the starting date of employment.
  • A Food Handler’s Card authorized through the Arizona Department of Health prior to the starting date of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an environment that enables each child to reach their fullest physical, emotional, educational, psychological, and behavioral potential.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in subject area and of curriculum development, including scope and sequence.
  • Communicate effectively with students, demonstrating and promoting mutual respect.
  • Promote positive self-concepts in learners and maintain a positive and stimulating learning environment.
  • Communicate enthusiasm for learning and use correct written and oral expression.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans that reflect goals, objectives, and activities.
  • Assess student skills levels to determine appropriate learning objectives.
  • Plan instruction to achieve selected objectives, choosing relevant academic activities to ensure appropriate student time on task.
  • Follow the design of the district’s curriculum and sequence learning activities to achieve specific goals and objectives.
  • Plan instruction at varying and appropriate levels of cognitive thinking and organize instructions to meet individual differences and specific needs.
  • Organize resources such as time, space, materials, and equipment to facilitate the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and assess student progress using specific procedures.
  • Provide instruction at student’s skill level, teaching to the learning objectives as specified in the lesson plan.
  • Teach necessary objectives in a logical sequence and provide instruction at a variety of levels of thinking.
  • Use strategies to maximize the amount of time students are engaged in relevant tasks.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and methods related to the objectives.
  • Model correct performance for students and give clear directions and explanations related to the lesson.
  • Monitor student learning throughout the learning process and obtain responses for each objective to check student mastery before proceeding.
  • Adjust instruction to meet individual differences and specific needs.
  • Evaluate students according to consistent objective criteria.
  • Communicate to students the purpose and value of learning objectives.
  • Provide sufficient teacher-directed and independent practice with monitoring to ensure that students are accurate and successful.
  • Communicate the importance of learning by holding all students accountable for learning.
  • Provide an appropriate focus for students at the beginning of learning objectives and summarize learning using a variety of methods.
  • Use effective classroom management techniques and communicate expectations for appropriate classroom behavior.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with individuals, small groups, or large groups as determined by instructional objectives.
  • Manage inappropriate classroom behavior by implementing the discipline procedure adopted by the governing board.
  • Act in a professional manner, engage in professional development, and seek and share professional ideas.
  • Act in accordance with teacher responsibilities, both legal and professional, and use discretion in the use of professional or confidential information.
  • Identify exceptional students and refer them to appropriate specialists.
  • Use effective strategies for parent-teacher communication, including conferences.
  • Demonstrate willingness to accept additional responsibilities.
  • Supervise and evaluate additional support staff and/or volunteers when applicable.
  • Show care in personal hygiene and grooming and attend all meetings as required.
  • Adhere to Board and Administrative policy.
  • Maintain appropriate and adequate information regarding Federal Law, State Law, District Policy, and School Procedures.
