About The Position

Camden County Schools is seeking a 6th/Middle Grades Math Teacher to plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. The teacher will be responsible for implementing a program of instruction that adheres to district philosophy, goals, and objectives, making purposeful lesson plans, and adapting to students' individual needs. This role emphasizes hands-on, exploratory practices, problem-solving, and fostering enthusiasm for learning. The teacher will also be involved in curriculum revision, utilizing test data, classroom management, and ensuring a safe learning environment. Additionally, the position requires utilizing instructional technologies, adhering to board policies, and performing assigned duties. Key functions include effective management of instructional time, student behavior, instructional presentation, monitoring student performance, providing feedback, facilitating instruction aligned with curriculum goals, interacting effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community, and performing non-instructional duties.

Requirements

  • Education degree or degree in a related area that will qualify for North Carolina licensure.
  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a NC Teaching License in Elementary Education (K-6) or Middle Grades Math.
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when a student is participating in an inclusive activity.

  • Keeps up to date on subject matter and learning theory, and shares this knowledge to continually improve the school's curriculum.
  • Assists in the ongoing curriculum revision process.
  • Works with principals, subject matter specialists, and teachers to use test data to improve curriculum content and delivery.
  • Develops and consistently applies reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate classroom management techniques in accordance with district and school guidelines.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Shares responsibility for the supervision of students in all areas of the school during the school day.
  • Provides supervision for assigned students when circumstances require a brief absence.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment.
  • Attends all staff, department, and committee meetings, as required.
  • Continues professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework.
  • Provides progress and other reports as required.
  • Makes appropriate adjustments in the instructional program as required.
  • Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers.
  • Utilizes multiple instructional technologies to engage students and enhance instruction.
  • Implements best practices for the district's 1:1 technology initiative.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Upholds and enforces Board of Education policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations.
  • Maintains appropriate work habits, including appropriate use of conference and planning time.
  • Plans and prescribes purposeful assignments for teacher assistants, tutors, and volunteers as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Manages instructional time by having materials ready, starting instruction quickly, getting students on task, and maintaining high student time on task.
  • Manages student behavior by establishing rules and procedures, monitoring behavior, and addressing inappropriate behavior promptly.
  • Presents instruction by reviewing previous materials, introducing new objectives, speaking clearly, using understandable concepts, providing examples, assigning successful tasks, asking appropriate questions, pacing lessons effectively, making smooth transitions, clarifying assignments, and summarizing main points.
  • Monitors student performance by maintaining clear work standards, circulating during class, checking progress through various work products, and posing questions clearly.
  • Provides feedback on in-class and out-of-class work to encourage student growth, affirming correct responses and providing sustaining feedback for incorrect responses.
  • Facilitates instruction by having a plan compatible with school/system goals, using diagnostic information for revisions, maintaining accurate records, aligning objectives with strategies and student needs, and using available resources.
  • Interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community.
  • Carries out non-instructional duties, adheres to policies, and follows a plan for professional development.
