About The Position

This position is for a 6th Grade Language Arts/Social Studies teacher at North Middle School. The terms of employment are either 194 or 196 days, depending on experience within WCSD. The role requires a deep understanding of the middle level learner, effective instructional methods, and a commitment to preparing students for higher standards and lifelong learning. Collaboration within a Professional Learning Community and engagement with parents and the community are essential. The position also emphasizes ongoing professional growth and development aligned with Iowa Professional Development Standards and Iowa Teaching Standards.

Requirements

  • Valid State of Iowa teaching license.
  • K-8 Reading and K-8 Social Studies OR 5-8 Middle School Generalist OR K-6 Elementary OR MS Language Arts and MS Social Studies endorsement.
  • Knowledge of the middle level learner based on current research.
  • Knowledge of literacy strategies based on current research.
  • Commitment to the team teaching concept.
  • Understanding of key processes in a Professional Learning Community.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.

Nice To Haves

  • Reading endorsement preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 6th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies.
  • Utilize pedagogically appropriate/best practice instructional methods.
  • Implement a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare all students to achieve higher standards and become lifelong learners.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of PBIS, CCRS, inquiry, differentiating instruction, project-based learning, the use of data to guide instruction, standard-based reporting, leadership skill development, the Core, and 21st Century Skills.
  • Commit to the team teaching concept, including integrated and interdisciplinary instruction.
  • Be a contributing member of a Professional Learning Community.
  • Involve parents and communities in supporting student learning and healthy development.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Support the Iowa Teaching Standards as the foundation for professional growth.
