The 6 North unit at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital is a 36-bed general medicine/telemetry and progressive care unit serving adults and older adults with complex medical and psychosocial conditions. These conditions include acute and chronic diagnoses such as Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Diabetes, and Pneumonia. The unit is equipped with a full range of monitoring systems, including telemetry, and patient and staff safety devices like bed/chair alarms and patient transfer equipment. Additionally, the unit integrates eight beds dedicated to the Addiction Recovery Program (ARP), which serves adults seeking voluntary detoxification for alcohol and opiate misuse. Care is provided by direct-care nurses under the direction of the nursing leadership team, in collaboration with medical providers, including mid-level practitioners (NP/PA). The Staff Nurse is a registered nurse in Massachusetts responsible for planning and providing patient care according to established Nursing Standards of Care. This role requires initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills in managing patients with complex needs, assuming full responsibility for patient assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The Staff Nurse practices the Patient and Family Centered Care Model, exemplifying best practices in their work.
