About The Position

High Tech High (HTH) is seeking a 5th Grade Elementary Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This position reports to the School Director and is a full-time, exempt, certificated, 188-day role. HTH, a network of K-12 charter schools in San Diego County, California, is guided by principles of equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaborative design. The teacher will be responsible for preparing lesson plans, educating students, assigning homework, grading tests, and documenting progress. The role requires the ability to manage a classroom effectively and deliver an engaging, project-based curriculum. The teacher will create and maintain a learning environment that fosters student academic potential and achieves learning goals, embodying HTH's design principles in all actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid California Mulitple Subjects Teaching Credential or Out-of-state teaching license
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage the time of self and others
  • Ability to work with professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, equity, honesty and personal accountability at all times
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional administrative and organization skills
  • Proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods
  • Ability to incorporate goals, competencies and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to student’s lives
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage diversity

Responsibilities

  • Embodies High Tech High’s design principles of Equity, Personalization, Authentic Work and Collaborative Design in all work activities and actions
  • Creates daily lesson plans with project-based assignments that are engaging, educational and exciting for the kids
  • Plans, prepares and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  • Incorporates goals, competencies and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to the student’s life.
  • Achieves school and course-wide performance goals for every student in class
  • Grades assignments and homework regularly to keep students updated on how they are doing
  • Identifies students who are struggling with learning, emotional problems, or situations at home, and finds them the resources they need
