About The Position

Belmont Charter Network is seeking a passionate and dedicated 5th Grade Science Teacher to join their team. The mission of Belmont Charter Network is to provide each student with a high-quality education supported by services that meet the needs of the whole child. They are a family of 5 community schools focused on the academic, social, and emotional well-being of each child, supported by a non-profit partner that offers holistic services. Belmont Charter Network believes that schools and learning should be joyful and sees education as a powerful tool to disrupt systemic racism. The organization has a 20-year history in Philadelphia and is grounded in trauma-informed practice. The 5th Grade Science Teacher will be responsible for supporting student success by ensuring the school day runs efficiently, planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program to help students reach their academic potential, aligning with the mission and standards of Belmont Charter Network. This is a 10-month position supervised by a member of the school leadership team.

Requirements

  • B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited institution
  • 1-2 years of classroom experience, preferably in urban education
  • Valid and active Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate
  • Demonstrated skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Creative problem-solving

  • A knack for connecting with people across differences, including parents, colleagues, and students.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and a variety of individualized needs

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and educational goals.
  • Create a supportive and engaging classroom environment that promotes student learning and participation.
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to students and parents/guardians.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum and instructional methods.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and school administrators.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Execute school-wide duties in accordance with school rules and procedures, such as lunch, recess, hallway, or other duties in the school as assigned.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
