About The Position

The 5‑Axis Pipe Profiler Operator is responsible for the setup, programming interface, and operation of CNC pipe profiling equipment used to cut, bevel, and prepare pipe spools in accordance with fabrication drawings, ISO specifications, and weld procedures. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accuracy, fit-up quality, and production efficiency for downstream welding and assembly operations.

Requirements

  • Read and interpret isometric spool drawings
  • Read and interpret weld maps and WPS requirements
  • Read and interpret cut sheets from detailing/software systems
  • Ensure all cuts meet dimensional tolerances required for fit-up and welding
  • Identify discrepancies between drawings and material conditions and escalate as needed
  • Perform in-process inspections including bevel angle verification, cut accuracy and profile validation, and surface quality of cuts
  • Ensure parts are ready for fit-up crews and QC hold points when required
  • Assist QC/NDE teams in resolving profiling-related issues
  • Perform machine setup including tool selection and change-out, calibration and zeroing, and program loading and verification
  • Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of machine and work area
  • Report mechanical or software issues promptly

Responsibilities

  • Operate 5-axis CNC pipe profiling machines to perform: Saddle cuts (branch connections), Beveling for weld prep, Coping and contour cutting
  • Load and align pipe material in profile machine to maintain dimensional accuracy
  • Verify correct cut parameters (angle, bevel, wall thickness, offsets) before execution
  • Monitor machine operation and adjust feeds, speeds, and tooling as required
  • Coordinate with Material Control/Kitting for correct pipe heat numbers and sizes
  • Maintain traceability of materials through cutting process (heat number verification)
  • Align production priorities with: Detail Release, Production Release, Shop schedules
