5-Axis Machinist: 3rd Shift

About The Position

Elmet Technologies is a leading producer of high-performance metals including tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, niobium, and other specialty metals. We are currently sourcing candidates for a CNC Milling Machinist at our Euclid, OH facility. This person will operate advanced CNC machines that can move along axes (3-axis, 5-axis, etc.) simultaneously to produce complex, high-precision parts. This includes cutting, turning, drilling, milling, reaming, and boring of metallic and nonmetallic work pieces. This is a 3rd shift position, with training on 1st shift for approximately 30-60 days; 3rd shift hours are 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM.

Requirements

  • High School of Vocational School Diploma and/or GED required.
  • 5-7 years previous CNC machining (3-axis, 5-axis)
  • The ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and layouts, understand general tolerances, utilize measuring equipment (optical comparator, micrometers, dial calipers, dial indicators and any necessary inspection equipment) and computer software programs.
  • Display competence in operating and maintaining all machines in defined department.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing programs, providing estimated machining times and costs
  • Experience with FANUC, HAAS, OKUMA controls.
  • CAD / CAM software training/experience.
  • Horizontal/Vertical machining center experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, routing sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences.
  • Estimates requirements for time, tooling, and material to complete job.
  • Prepares purchase requisitions for tooling and material utilizing ERP system software.
  • Designs and fabricates fixtures as needed.
  • Programs machines for manufacturing using CAD/CAM software.
  • Documents programs for ISO compliance.
  • Sets up job by loading control media in machine controller or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from database, prepares and presets all tools.
  • Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Discusses control media errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
  • Operates, maintains, and monitors machine operations which may include tool changing, offsetting, and slight adjustments to meet customer specifications.
  • Makes minor adjustments to preprogrammed instructions to meet product requirements.
  • Verifies that fixture setup meets acceptable quality standards regarding turning, milling, and boring sizes, depths, angles, or other specifications.
