About The Position

The Diocese of San Diego is seeking a qualified, experienced and passionate educator who is deeply committed to developing Christ-centered, forward-thinking leaders to serve our future Church and our world. The classroom teacher develops a curriculum that meets developmental goals and instructional activities based on the standards adapted by the Diocese of San Diego. The classroom teacher is responsible for measuring academic progress and accomplishments of students towards their academic achievements on a regular basis and providing progress reports and report cards as required. The classroom teacher exercises open and respectful communication with families, students, staff, and administration and provides a safe, thriving, and respectful environment for all students in the classroom and on the school campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ability to develop engaging and grade-level appropriate lessons and activities
  • Ability to instruct middle school children in learning new tasks
  • Ability to teach middle school children's social skills and character-building traits
  • Has good communication skills
  • Maintains patience and compassion suitable for working with middle school students
  • Up-to-date teaching credentials
  • A Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for the Diocese of San Diego is a condition of employment)
  • A basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic School philosophy, goals, and objectives
  • Appropriate control and discipline techniques, which will enhance the learning environment
  • Ability to be flexible and work as a team

Responsibilities

  • Provides a grade-appropriate instructional program utilizing Diocesan standards
  • Plans grade-level appropriate lesson plans and unit plans
  • Prepares and maintains a welcoming, neat, and orderly classroom
  • Accurately assesses each student’s performance
  • Supervises students on the playground and at lunch as needed
  • Participates in faculty meetings, school committees, and in-services
  • Attends other school functions and activities as requested
  • Willing to advance educational knowledge by attending conferences and professional development
  • Returns voicemail and e-mail messages in a timely manner
  • Communicates regularly with parents
  • Submits assessment data as needed and completes tasks in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates a respectful demeanor with staff, students, and parents
  • Observes utmost confidentiality regarding parent, student, and staff information/conversations
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal
