About The Position

This position is in a Spanish dual language immersion program where students receive instruction in both English and Spanish. The teacher will foster and enhance an effective learning environment, facilitate curriculum development, establish learning objectives, provide instruction, counsel students, and evaluate student performance. The role requires an Elementary endorsement and proficiency in Spanish (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).

Requirements

  • Elementary endorsement.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and listen in Spanish.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Academic preparation for or experience in teaching a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population in an urban school system.
  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
  • Pass a Criminal Justice fingerprint and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Working with bilingual students and assisting them in the transition to regular classrooms.
  • Implementing programs designed to prevent the dropout of 'at risk' students.
  • Teaching multi-level, open-concept, and main streamed classes.
  • Valid first aid and CPR certification (some positions may require).
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and/or a Class II driver's license (some positions may require).

Responsibilities

  • Foster an educational environment conducive to learning and maturation.
  • Plan instructional programs to meet individual and group student needs, including at-risk or special needs youth.
  • Prepare lesson plans using appropriate instructional methods and materials.
  • Implement established program or curriculum objectives.
  • Attend in-service training and pursue professional growth to stay current in teaching methods.
  • Establish and implement positive classroom policies and procedures for student behavior.
  • Provide guidance, counseling, and discipline to encourage students to meet achievement and conduct standards.
  • Make referrals for assistance when appropriate.
  • Confer with students, parents/guardians, and other staff to provide guidance, evaluation, and encourage student achievement.
  • Establish classroom goals and objectives in accordance with State and School District guidelines.
  • Evaluate and record student progress and prepare reports for parents/guardians.
  • Collect and interpret data for administrative reporting.
  • Direct the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel.
  • Attend required staff meetings and other activities necessary for the position's objectives and professional achievement.
  • Serve on staff committees as required.
  • Participate in activities to enhance personal and professional skills.
  • Perform related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.
