Providence Health Care is building the new St. Paul’s Hospital, a state-of-the-art health campus opening in 2027. This once-in-a-generation project will transform how care is delivered in British Columbia. Requirements

  • Certificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of British Columbia.
  • Two years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operates heating, air conditioning, pumps, fans, air compressors, and pneumatic systems.
  • Monitors and adjusts temperature control systems; records meter and gauge readings.
  • Checks, repairs, and maintains plumbing fixtures and systems (water lines, waste lines, steam valves, sterilizers, ovens, etc.).
  • Operates mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic controls to adjust HVAC and plant systems.
  • Repairs and calibrates steam and HVAC instrumentation components.
  • Performs preventive and demand maintenance on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment.
  • Tests, maintains, and repairs auxiliary power generators.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and performs minor welding repairs on equipment like beds and wheelchairs.
  • Changes and cleans air filters, fan rooms, and ductwork.
  • Responds to service and emergency calls for fire protection, medical air, vacuum, gas, and sterilizers.
  • Monitors and adjusts chemical treatment systems.
  • Maintains, repairs, replaces and extends steam piping systems including components of the Physical Plant such as expansion joints, valves, steam traps, strainers, heat exchangers, gauges and insulation.
  • Ensures compliance with various codes and regulations applying to power engineering and/or safety policies and procedures by methods such as providing direction in relation to plant safety to persons working within the power plant, maintaining work area in accordance with established safety standards and guidelines and reporting operating inefficiencies, breakdowns and safety hazards to designate as required.
  • Maintains records and makes logbook entries and carries out tests and calculations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
