About The Position

Alabama Clinical Schools has been a behavioral healthcare provider in the Birmingham area for over 20 years. Our treatment services range from intensive residential treatment for males ages 9-18 to therapeutic foster care for males and females of all ages. Our RISE and Specialized Therapeutic Foster Care programs for boys are the only programs of their kind in the State of Alabama. The 3rd Shift Supervisor - MHA provides efficient and effective management and coordination of activities of assigned shift and supervises Mental Health Associates, Group Leads and Assistant Group Leads to assure the safety and security of the facility is maintained at all times. Assists and monitors residents with daily living activities when needed. Assists and monitors residents at all times to ensure resident and unit safety. Provides adequate staff supervision and escorts residents to and from the unit in a safe, orderly manner when needed. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be 19 years or older.
  • Successful drug screen and background check (includes criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check).
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Verification of absence of criminal record on local, state and federal levels.
  • Must be able to lift, push and/or pull over fifty (50 lbs.) pounds.
  • Must be able to assist residents from lying to seated position and from seated to standing position in a safe manner resulting in prevention of falls.
  • Must be able to safely engage in physical interventions using upper and lower body strength as well as balance.
  • Must be able to talk and hear to engage with residents, to facilitate group sessions, verbally de-escalate and perform other therapeutic interventions appropriate with the treatment plan.
  • Must have visual acuity to appropriately monitor residents for safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or other human services field preferred.
  • One year of experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a Mental Health Associate working with adolescents and/or adults.
  • Experience in a residential setting is required.
  • AL Driver’s License may be required to transport residents to/from appointments, hearings, etc.
