About The Position

Under the supervision of the principal, the teacher is a person of faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education. The teacher assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of the grades or classes assigned, develops and implements an instructional program according to the needs of the students and the established Diocesan Curriculum Standards, and maintains detailed and accurate records as required by the school. The role also involves establishing positive school-community relationships, continuing professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications, and performing any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.

  • Must demonstrate personal self-discipline, be adaptable and flexible in routine and unexpected situations.
  • Must use good judgment in daily encounters.
  • Must use verbal and written language correctly.
  • Must demonstrate an appropriate sense of humor.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of good teaching techniques and child psychology.
  • Must maintain appropriate grooming and dress at all times as stated in the faculty handbook.
  • Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Must be certified by the Arizona State Department of Education as a teacher and meet applicable NCA requirements.
  • Received Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct.
  • Must hold an AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must meet Ministry Formation Certification and/or re-certification as required by Diocesan policy.

  • Must be willing to make a public Profession of Faith if Catholic and if non – Catholic willing to support Catholic teachings and philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Embrace and model the Catholic philosophy of education, promote and live gospel values and Catholic moral teaching, uphold the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church, and provide opportunities for faith development of students.
  • Assume responsibility for the leadership and management of the classes assigned, including providing a positive learning environment, organizing the classroom, and supervising student safety and welfare.
  • Develop and implement a daily and weekly schedule covering all areas of curriculum, and develop and implement an instructional program according to student needs and Diocesan Curriculum Standards.
  • Integrate Church's teachings in all aspects of the curriculum, determine student achievement levels, use appropriate teaching strategies and resources, incorporate technology, and refer students for evaluation when necessary.
  • Evaluate student progress effectively using a variety of ongoing assessments aligned with goals and standards, and provide prompt constructive feedback.
  • Maintain students’ records consistently and accurately, including grading, reporting, lesson plans, and statistics as required by the principal.
  • Establish positive school-community relationships by maintaining cooperative relations, promoting respectful school relationships, and providing for regular conferences with parents.
  • Cooperate with and help promote various curricular and co-curricular programs within the school.
  • Attend and actively participate in school faculty meetings and in-services.
  • Continue professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications by keeping informed of current instructional practices, participating in professional activities, and attending diocesan-sponsored in-services.
  • Actively participate in the process of continuous school improvement.
  • Maintain personal professional development records.
  • Perform any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.
