About The Position

Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in East Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. DLS offers traditional learning activities in the target language, making the language both the medium and the object of instruction. This position supports the academic growth of students through the implementation of DLS pedagogy, comprehensive classroom management, implementing effective engagement strategies, and building authentic teacher/student relationships. The teacher is a contributing member of the Spanish Immersion Program and works closely with campus principals, instructional leaders and teachers, parents/families, and students to ensure measurable positive student outcomes. This vacancy will be posted until 08/04/2026 or until filled by a highly qualified candidate. We encourage individuals to apply even if the above date has passed. The anticipated start date for this position is 08/04/2026, however, an earlier start date may be considered. The selected candidate will report to the Whitman School Principal.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of teaching experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or closely related field
  • Completion of required READ Act training
  • Official college transcripts (evaluated by NACES member, if you completed your education outside the US)
  • Passing score on Praxis 5001 within one year of hire
  • Native or Fluent Spanish Ability

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of teaching experience
  • Previous immersion or Dual Language Immersion teaching experience
  • Understanding of language development and acquisition
  • Utilizes best practices
  • Uses restorative justice and liberatory design to encourage a classroom environment that reflects reciprocal respect and the presence of a warm demander
  • Awareness of and comfort with Tier I interventions

Responsibilities

  • Effectively instruct using the given curriculum
  • Supplement and differentiate curriculum
  • Build authentic teacher/student relationships
  • Consistently implement effective engagement strategies
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to determine student pacing and needs
  • Works with parents, colleagues, and to build relationships with community members to deepen learning opportunities
  • Communicate with a wide range of students while providing scaffolding for all learners
  • Additional tasks and/or assignments to further the mission and vision of the school, as assigned
