Requirements

  • Successful completion of a 3rd Class Operating Engineer TSSA Certificate. This TSSA certificate requires the successful completion of TSSA exams.
  • Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, TSSA and related regulations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate basic computer software applications as well as outlook and to conduct research using the internet.
  • Must have a working knowledge and experience in the repair and maintenance of various types of mechanical equipment.
  • Diagnostic and problem solving skills related to technical issues.
  • Must be able to read process flow diagrams, P&IDs, mechanical drawings and follow mechanical specifications.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Successful completion of practical steam time in a 2nd Class plant or greater.
  • Acquired relevant hands on related work experience preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Developed interpersonal / communication and ability to work cooperatively and respectfully within a team.
  • Ability to deal with other staff / contractors with tact, diplomacy and courtesy.
  • Required to work overtime, weekends, holidays and call-in as needed to maintain a 24/7 operating plant.
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including climbing ladders and stairs, walking, bending, stooping etc.
  • Must have good manual dexterity and experience using industrial hand tools and power tools.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, work at heights and work from platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant plant experience and be familiar with plant operations, chemical processing equipment, procedures and related systems an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares necessary reports and logs (upset reports, unusual circumstances).
  • Issues Maintenance Work Orders for equipment repair.
  • Issues "Permission to Start Work" permits.
  • Inputs data into software package for interpretation of performance.
  • Participates in Plant Safety Program.
  • Performs housekeeping duties.
  • Assists Stationary Engineer 2nd Class in the Boiler house as required.
  • Monitors chemical inventory levels and other necessary supplies.
  • Files inventory reports with Supervisor.
