310T Mechanic or 2nd Year Apprentice
About The Position
Student Transportation of Canada (STC) is seeking a 310T Mechanic or 2nd Year Apprentice for their Smithville, Ontario facility. This role involves learning and performing day-to-day preventative and post-incident repairs on a large fleet of commercial vehicles, including school buses and civilian class vehicles. The position requires diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues under the guidance of shop leadership and experienced technicians. The incumbent will also maintain strong customer service skills when interacting with drivers, dispatchers, managers, peer mechanics, apprentices, and governmental agencies.
Requirements
- Possess and maintain in good standing a valid 310T License or 2nd Year Apprentice
- Valid Driver’s License
- Thorough working knowledge of Municipal, Provincial and Federal safety provisions
- Ability to work in a team-based, collaborative work environment
Nice To Haves
- Practical experience in preventative maintenance practices, particularly within the School Bus industry
Responsibilities
- Perform Brake and Safety Inspections, carry out preventative maintenance.
- Ensure all vehicle inspections are completed in a timely fashion each month.
- Perform service calls and cold starts as required.
- Ensure knowledge of safety policies and adherence to them.
- Perform additional vehicle repairs as needed.
- Adhere to compliance-based regulations from a Company, Federal, Provincial and Municipal perspective.
- Complete reports to record problems and work performed.
- Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions.
- Diagnose faults and malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace.
