About The Position

Teachers are responsible for providing direct instruction to students and maintaining an environment conducive to learning. This role supports the mission and value of education within Joplin Schools. The teacher must enforce all applicable Board policies and regulations, administrative procedures, and state and federal laws. They are expected to supervise students, obey safety rules, care for school property, and maintain professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the public. Effective communication, excellent customer service, and compliance with privacy rights are essential. The teacher must react productively to change, receive constructive criticism, and actively participate in professional development. All official business must be conducted professionally and in a timely manner, utilizing district technology. Punctuality and attendance at required meetings are expected. Maintaining accurate records and filing systems is crucial. Problem-solving using math functions and interpreting documents are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
  • Ability to move around the classroom
  • Ability to read handwritten or printed material
  • Consistent and regular attendance

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students by creating learning experiences that make the aspects of subject matter meaningful and engaging.
  • Provide learning opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners and support the intellectual, social and personal development of all students.
  • Develop daily lesson plans aligned with state standards and District curriculum maps, informed by student data.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to encourage students' critical thinking, problem-solving and performance skills.
  • Create a learning environment that encourages active engagement in learning, positive social interaction and self-motivation.
  • Model effective verbal, nonverbal and media communication techniques with students, colleagues and families to foster active inquiry, collaboration and supportive interaction in the classroom.
  • Understand and use formative and summative assessment strategies to assess the learner's progress and use both classroom and standardized assessment data to plan ongoing instruction.
  • Participate in regular, meaningful data conversations through learning communities.
  • Monitor the performance of each student and devise instruction to enable students to grow and develop, making adequate academic progress.
  • Treat others with respect and civility, values diversity, and resolves conflicts professionally.
  • Actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally, individually and collectively, in order to improve learning for all students.
  • Participate in building, grade level and subject area committees.
  • Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and other educational concerns.
  • Participate as a member of an IEP team, 504 team, or other student assistance teams as requested.
  • Implement plans as written.
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy and applicable law.
  • Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher prior to absences occurring.
  • Other duties as assigned.
