About The Position

Omni PGA Frisco Golf Club, located near the PGA of America headquarters, is a premier golf destination featuring two championship courses, Fields Ranch East and Fields Ranch West, along with a short course and a putting course. This resort is recognized as a top golf destination, hosting major tournaments. The Second Assistant Superintendent plays a crucial role in the Golf Course Maintenance operations, primarily focusing on the East Course. This position involves assisting in the management of daily operations, supporting the First Assistant Superintendent with chemical and fertility plans, and ensuring the golf course is meticulously maintained for daily play and high-profile events. The role requires a keen eye for detail and active participation in maintaining all aspects of the golf course, including tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths. Additionally, the Second Assistant Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the maintenance staff, including supervision, training, and scheduling.

Requirements

  • Two- or four-year certificate from a college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Required Texas State License as pesticide applicator.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply calibration of pesticide and fertilizer.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Texas Pesticide Applicator License or Ability to gain in 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Trains, motivates, and supervises staff capable of performing the tasks associated with maintaining the golf course.
  • Assists in planning, scheduling, and monitoring daily operations, including coordinating and assigning work.
  • Reviews the golf course daily and provides feedback to the Golf Course Superintendent (GCS) and First Assistant Superintendent to ensure agronomic standards, maintenance standards, and departmental goals are met.
  • Assists the First Superintendent in documenting and filing daily records for each team member’s assignments, including job tasks and completion times.
  • Works directly with Assistant in Training (AITs) in monitoring golf course playing conditions, primarily related to moisture management programs, and ensures proper management techniques and guidelines are followed.
  • Works with and builds relationships with interns, collaborating with the Superintendent on plans and strategies for intern success.
  • Ensures team members properly use, clean, and fuel equipment, and that all assigned small equipment is returned and signed back in.
  • Ensures accurate logging of information and data for department record keeping, such as rainfall, daily weather conditions, moisture management, and other agronomic program details.
  • Discusses daily schedules, programs, and concerns with leadership, focusing on efficient management and quality control, and promptly reports issues to leadership.
  • Responsible for daily observations of the golf course concerning maintenance programs and assists with adjusting and modifying programs.
  • Assists with training of staff and prioritizes staff safety.
  • Maintains pesticide license and pursues continual education in the field.
  • Ensures organization of the Golf Course Maintenance (GCM) facility, equipment, and grounds.
