2027 Summer Intern - Product Technical Development - Laboratory (Wet-Lab or Dry-Lab) Focus
About The Position
The Pharmaceutical Technical Development Unit (PTDU) develops, delivers, and supports robust, cost-effective production methods and technologies for innovative therapeutics used by Genentech’s Research, Development, Commercial, and Product Operations groups. It is recognized for developing large-scale manufacturing processes, analytical methods, and drug delivery systems. This is a paid, full-time, 12-week internship based on-site in South San Francisco. Laboratory-focus interns work alongside scientists to design, execute, and analyze wet-lab or dry-lab experiments supporting the development of therapeutics for production at scale. Interns take ownership of challenging, business-critical projects and present their work to senior leaders. Program start dates are in May and June 2027.
Requirements
- At the time of application, be pursuing a bachelor's degree and have completed at least two years of the degree program, or have attained a bachelor's degree within two years of the application date and not be currently enrolled in a graduate program.
- Be able to work 40 hours per week for the full 12-week internship.
- Have a major in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Biophysics, or a related discipline.
- Be detail-oriented, enthusiastic, self-directed, and excited to tackle complex and creative scientific challenges in an industrial setting.
- Have excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate alignment with the company’s values of Integrity, Courage, and Passion.
Nice To Haves
- Relevant work experience in research laboratories or the biotechnology industry is desirable but not required.
Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and analyze wet-lab or dry-lab experiments alongside scientists.
- Support development activities needed to produce therapeutics at scale.
- Complete an assigned project within an area such as cell culture and fermentation development, purification development, protein analytical chemistry, analytical operations, pharmaceutical development, drug delivery technology development, potency assay development, or cell and gene therapies.
- Present project work to senior leaders.
