Please note that the final individual compensation and any applicable benefits will be determined by your employer of record (and not BMS). Factors influencing this decision may include the characteristics of the assignment, such as demonstrated experience, required skill, and the geographic location of the job. Compensation details are subject to change. This is a temporary, time-bound position intended for the duration of the internship or co-op program. Employment in this role does not imply or guarantee ongoing or permanent employment with BMS. Position Summary: The Process Shift Leader Intern will support the assessment and optimization of preparation processes for the Formulation and Filling areas. This role focuses on evaluating current workflows and proposing the implementation of Kanban methodology, with the objective to increase process efficiency and flexibility, independent of specific batch assignments. The intern will gain practical experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, lean tools, and cross-functional teamwork.

Requirements

  • Applicants must attend an accredited university in Puerto Rico or reside in Puerto Rico.
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • Seniors graduating in Spring or Summer 2026 are eligible to apply only if they will be continuing their education for the following semester (Fall 2026).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or process improvement methodologies (e.g., Kanban, Six Sigma).
  • Previous coursework or experience in pharmaceutical, engineering, or industrial settings.
  • Skills in data analysis or workflow mapping.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and document existing preparation workflows for the Formulation and Filling processes.
  • Identify process bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
  • Research Kanban principles applicable to pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Develop visual management tools (e.g., Kanban boards) for tracking preparatory steps.
  • Recommend strategies to separate preparation activities from batch-specific constraints.
  • Assist in pilot implementation of Kanban and collect user feedback.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on findings and project progress.
  • Collaborate with operations and quality teams to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Summer hours are generally not available for field sales and manufacturing operations and may also be limited for the capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible for summer hours, depending on the nature of their work, and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that document to determine if they are eligible. Contractors, leased workers and other service providers are not eligible to participate in the program.
