About The Position

The Legal Assistant will provide comprehensive litigation and case-management support to attorneys handling Colorado first-party insurance matters. The position is responsible for supporting cases from initial client intake and pre-litigation claim evaluation through filing, discovery, depositions, expert work, mediation, trial preparation, settlement, and case closure. The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, deadline-driven, and comfortable managing substantial volumes of insurance claim, litigation, and damages documentation. The position requires the ability to understand and organize insurance policies, claim files, correspondence, estimates, invoices, photographs, expert materials, discovery, deposition materials, and court filings.

Requirements

  • Full-time, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, M-F.
  • 2+ years of legal assistant experience.
  • Experience handling Colorado first-party insurance litigation.
  • Experience with Colorado state court civil litigation.
  • Familiarity with Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Experience with case management software.
  • Experience e-filing in both state and federal courts.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate with clients and co-workers effectively and efficiently.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize workload.

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform secretarial, clerical, and data entry duties.
  • Document management using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe.
  • E-file legal documents in Colorado’s E-Portal System.
  • Maintain attorney’s calendar.
  • Assist attorneys with new-client intake and preliminary case development.
  • Obtain and organize information concerning the insurance claim, policy, loss, damages, claim handling, and prior communications.
  • Identify missing information and documents and follow up with clients and third parties.
  • Identify important deadlines and escalate potential statute-of-limitations, notice, appraisal, or other deadline issues to the supervising attorney.
  • Schedule depositions, pre-depositions, meetings, mediations, and hearings.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for depositions, hearings, trials, and conferences.
  • Draft legal court documents, such as pleadings, motions, affidavits, and subpoenas.
  • Send out correspondence to parties/non-parties via email, regular mail, or certified mail.
  • Communicate with clients.
  • Monitor court filings and docket activity.
  • Set up Court calls or Zoom for hearings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
